About STRIDON

STRIDON is the acronym of the Slovene Association of Translation Studies, but also the name of the birthplace of Saint Jerome (Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymous), which si located somewhere between the Roman towns of Emona (Colonia Iulia Aemona) and Aquilea. Saint Jerome was the most important translator of the late antiquity working into Latin. He dedicated most of his life to translation, but he also produced and expanded reference works. In his  letter 57,  he also formulated one of the first theoretical ideas about translation in the Western world. In choosing the name STRIDON, members of the Slovene Association for Translation Studies express the fundamental direction of this cultural and scientific association dedicated to translatological education and training and the development and popularization of translation studies.
